Tugboat

The wreck of the tugboat rests upright at aprox 6m/18feet on the southern most point of an extensive sand plateau at the Caracas Bay Island. During the years the wreck became fully covered with many different coral formations and colour full sponges. The dive spot is sheltered from the elements so the diving conditions are near perfect. There are hardly any waves or current at the wreck.
On the plateau you will find several big coral formations which hold a lot of small underwater creatures, so don’t forget to check them out.
Because of the shallow water and the easy conditions, many dive centers use this dive location to teach diving, so when you visit this dive site you are sure to see some diving courses in action.
Near the wreck you will find many different species of fish and you will notice that they are unafraid of divers and sorcerers alike. This is because these fishes are used on getting fed by some divers and sorcerers. We discourage the feeding of any underwater creature, because it disrupts their natural feeding behaviour. Fishes that would normally eat the algae will now eat fewer algae or none at all, and hereby allowing the algae to grow out of control with all the negative consequences for the coral.
Just around the corner in south-easterly direction you will find a steep wall which drops down to 30m/100feet depth. When you dive on the wall you have to keep in mind that here there could be current with considerable strength. The top of the reef and the shallow part of drop off are fully covered with corals and sponges. The wall has less coral coverage but has many small crevices and holes which hold many small creatures like crabs and several species of nudibranchs. At the end of the dive it is well worth the trouble to dive to the pier next to the divecentre. The steel pillars are fully covered with corals and sponges and hold a lot of small underwater life such as shrimps, gobies etc.
